Simonsig Wine Estate had its annual Vintage Day on Saturday (25 August). A day which celebrates older vintages, because it’s true what ‘they‘ say: everything gets better with time.

Although the weather did not bless us with a sunny day – they made provision for tents, heaters, live music, ample seating, yummy food and most importantly, lots of wine.

 

So what exactly is the deal? What do you pay and what do you get?

You pay R160 and this gives you access to all the vintages of the day – from their “cultivar selection” to their premium range (even the Garland – their super premium R1400’ish-per-bottle Cab Sauv). And let us just tell you this: the wine did not disappoint. Vintages from 1998 to their current vintage; wooded and unwooded; with a wide variety of cultivars and blends. After you have tasted their utmost best throughout the years – you get to enjoy music, and good food (made by the restaurant, Cuvee) in the company of friends and family.

TrendE was invited to join their Cellar Master, Johan Malan, and his team of wine makers, at the Vintage Day: Master Class. We enjoyed 16 different Chenin Blanc’s – from the farm and all the way to France. An educational AND super fun experience to kick-start the day’s festivities. (*This comes at an extra cost).

We would definitely recommend this event for anyone that likes wine, food, live music or just having a fun Saturday afternoon. So keep your August open for Vintage Day.
