August has been one hell of a month and it all went by in the blink of an eye. So you don’t know what was popping off, who did what and who’s dating who? Chill, here at TrendE we got you!
Over the waters:
It all started with the release of Travis Scott’s certified-platinum album, Astroworld on the 3rd of August.
Mr. ‘Don’t You Open Up That Window’ is now a proud father and somehow he managed to release what some say is the best hip-hop album of 2018. It seems like Travis Scott could finally earn his first solo Grammy nomination based on all the reviews and praise going his way.
We’re totally here for it!
The album has not blown up as much as the world expected to and Ms Minaj is mad at everybody! She threw shots at Travis Scott saying that his album sales do not count because he is selling the albums as part of bundles. She even called him the “Hoe N***a of the week” on her radio show and claims that the only reason he is no. 1 on the charts is that he used his daughter as bait. Although there are some truths in what Nicki has said, sis needs to calm down and take a breather.
Whether she is no.2 or no. 99, her album is still a banger.
Ariana Grande dropped her well-anticipated album ‘Sweetener’.
Well, took her long enough, the release of her two singles ‘No tears left to cry’ and ‘God is a woman’ had us begging for more. The album sounds just as beautiful as the soon to be Mrs Pete Davidson looks on the cover. If you have a sweet tooth then download the album on iTunes and give it a listen. It is definitely worth the 48 minutes!
The 2018 MTV Video Music Awards were held on the 20th of August.
Cardi B had us gagging, serving ‘hot mama realness’ as she opened the 2018 VMAs. She was the most nominated contender and she won 3 out of 9. The ‘This Is America’ video has definitely been the statement of the year and ended the night with 3 wins. Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj had us all relocating our wigs during their performances.
Jennifer Lopez was honoured this year and given the ‘Michael Jackson Video Vanguard’. Her tear-jerking acceptance speech made us feels so inspired.
Besides Madonna’s failed Aretha tribute and two of the world’s best comics, Tiffany Haddish and Kevin Hart, somehow bombing (like how Sway, how do you become unfunny?), the VMAs were definitely a highlight on everybody’s calendar.
Our very own Gqom princess, Sho Majozi is making waves in New York City. She performed at the Brooklyn Afropunk alongside the likes of Erykah Badu, Tyler The Creator and another fellow SA musician, Nathan Toure. She made the whole of South Africa proud as she embraced her culture on the Afropunk stage and had everyone singing along. Her unreleased track ‘Wakanda Forever’ had the crowd begging for more and many said that she was the performance of the night. She also blessed us with one of the most entertaining Instagram stories of the month, the night of her performance.
New York is blowing my mind! I went to the @EVERYDAYPPLNYC party and they asked me to do a few songs. The response 😱

Represent and slay, Sho Madjozi!
In the midst of all this August madness, AKA somehow found time to go blonde.
Are you feeling it?
So that was is what popped off. Until next time!
