Project Runway South Africa

Project Runway South Africa always knows how to dish a good dose of great Tuesday entertainment and this week was no different. Five of the strongest designers remained but unfortunately we had to say goodbye to one of the fiercest contestants in the competition: Stephen (@stephenvaneeden).  After bagging his first challenge win of the season last week, our preciously talented Stephen landed up in the bottom two on Tuesday.

What happened this week

This week the designers had to create a street-wear ensemble inspired by the vibrant streets of Braamfontein. Sadly this task proved to be out of Stephen’s comfort zone and the judges were not impressed with his efforts to bring street style to the runway. Rahim even expressed that when you try put a designer in “a box that he does not fit into, it’s not gonna happen  – and that’s the thing with Stephen!”

Stephen

Shade aside, Stephen is immensely talented and although we had high hopes that he would make it to the finale, there’s no doubt that we will be seeing big names rocking his couture gowns on the red carpets very soon. Facts!

Jaime

While one day you’re in and the next you’re out, Jaime has definitely found his mojo in this competition. He bagged his second win for the season for his street wear inspired ensemble. The judges were obsessed with the tiger print jacket with black leather panels that he created. Giving us Cruella de Vil-meets-Nicki Minaj kind of feels…yassss Jaime you better werk!

Kentse

Kentse’s (@bespoke_kentse) pantsula inspired two-piece outfit came close second in our opinion. Although Noni (@nonigasa) was not feeling the shoe lace she used on the bucket hat, we were totally living for the jailbird-inspired orange cropped jacket paired with flared pants. One things for sure about Kentse, she knows her design strengths and she sticks to them. But Twitter is not feeling her over-confidence during her diary sessions and feel that she can’t do wrong according to the judges. What are your thoughts TrendEs? Is it really the Kentse Show?

Who went out

In other news, now that Siphosihle is gone, Sandile has become somewhat of the Drama King of the show. No matter how hard Gert Johan-Coetzee tries to give Sandile advice on changes he should consider on his garment before hitting the runway, Sandile is not hearing any of it honey!

Sandile

Every week it seems that Sandile chooses to stick with his intuition, despite Gert’s (@gertjcoetzee)critiques and well we suppose it has gotten him this far. Unfortunately Noni felt his garment was catering “for two very different women” although he mentioned that his garment was inspired by the likes of Noni Gasa. Ouch!

One day you’re in…

We are officially down to the wire. It seems that the designers are packing up and going on a road trip next week. It’s the semi-finals Trendees and Sandile, like the others, plan to snatch the crowns from these kids! Who is going to be crowned the winner of Project Runway SA? Do the right thing and give us your predictions!
