We visited Meloncino last night and were pleasantly surprised to find ourselves dining in Italy. It begins with the menu. All dishes are named in Italian, a chance to brush up on your Italian accent (but all dishes are explained in English – so no stress).
We arrived just in time to catch the last of the half price cocktail special which runs from 16:00 to 18:00. Browsing through the starters, we ordered a light bread basket (Pane, R18) which tasted amazing with the balsamic vinegar. With the amount you get the bread starter is perfect for sharing between two VERY hungry people.
The winter special offers any* pizza or pasta for only R99. We chose to go with the Porcini Mushroom and Parmesan stuffed Ravioli drenched in truffle and sage butter sauce (Ravioli Con Funghi Procini Con Salsa Di Tartufo E Salvia, R99). The mushroom was tender and juicy and the parmesan flavor was strong working well with the refreshing sage. The portion was perfect to leave enough space for dessert.
They offer the crispy thin based pizza which we are familiar with and a Napoleon style pizza base which is slightly thicker and has a doughy crust (for those carb cravings, after all more of these award-winning base can’t hurt). The Porcini Mushroom and Italian Sausage Pizza (Napoletana Funghi Porcini Pizza, R99). The pizza is simple but fragrant, flavors works well together and super filling. If we closed our eyes, our taste buds would say we were in Italy.
Ending the night on a sweet note with our beloved Nutella Tiramisu (Nutellamisu, R75) and Lindt Chocolate Soufflé (Flan Cioccolato Caldo, R69) served with sorbet (YUM!).
Although we must say the entrance is rather hard to find, so to save you the embarrassment of peering through windows and miming to waiters (because we are cool like that) we took a photo of the entrance for you (we got you covered).
The Meloncino entrance is the first “window” right after where The Greek Fisherman Restaurant ends.
The service is good, the hostess greeted us warmly with a smile and the waiter was quick to answer questions. The meals took slightly long to come to the table but that is because they make everything from scratch. For the freshness it is worth the time.
Interior and Vibe
The dining areas had an intimate setting with a chic yet warm and relaxing atmosphere. Watch the sunset glow over Table Mountain and eventually fade into a span of darkness dotted with tiny twinkling lights belonging to the docked ferries and shops below. They resemble hundreds of twinkling stars right below your balcony within hands reach. Romantic and Instagram picture perfect (yaaaaas!)
Ingredients and Price
Meloncino pizzas and pastas are made with authentic ingredients imported from Italy (including the chefsJ). Where else can you get a fine dining experience and a full tummy for only R99 (#WINNING)! We went a little overboard this time with starters, drinks, pizza/pasta and dessert (which still only came to R220) We know we are definitely coming back~
