Have you ever experienced going to a place that you usually wouldn’t think twice going into but when you do, you’re totally overcome with awe at how beautiful it is in there? Well, if you can relate – we experienced this exact same thing while cruising around the bustling CBD. So let us take this opportunity to cordially invite you to your new fav hangout spot: MESOPOTAMIA…
Put on comfy clothes and let your hair down after a stressful work week at South Africa’s very first Kurdish restaurant. This Eastern-inspired restaurant makes you feel at home immediately with its Indian-style seating, Kurdish decor and traditional cuisine made on tandoori wood fires.
So trendees, take your shoes off and relax into beautifully handmade kilim cushions around vintage copper tables while you admire the colourful Aladdin lamps that lie elegantly above your head. Take a moment to absorb the rich decor of Kurdish artifacts that visually tells the story of this ancient region and listen to their mesmerizing “Kurdish folksong” as they like to call it that plays softly and melancholy in the background.
When it comes to food, we’re quite fussy eaters – in fact, who wouldn’t insist on GOOD food? Well, this traditional cuisine totally blew us away with its rich and authentic flavours. Their food is not only aesthetically appealing but it’s texture and tenderness has our tummies growling and mouths watering – LITERALLY!
Mesopotamia offers a wide range of cultural cuisine but since we couldn’t try out the whole menu in one night (unfortunately), we can recommend their stuffed chicken for R110 – chicken breast stuffed with creamy spinach and fries or if you’re a meat lover – try their Shish lamb kebab made in a spicy sauce served with rice and veggies for only R125.
If you think that’s as good as it gets – you’re mistaken! Mesopotamia is also famous for its entertainment and as unique as everything else is, so is their live belly dancers who will keep you entertained throughout the night. Mesopotamia is also one of the best Hookah lounges in Cape Town so unwind, relax and stay TrendE!
How has your experience been at Mesopotamia? Let us know in the comments below.
