Over the years the trend of conscious eating has brought an array of new health spots to Cape Town. Among the more popular is Nourish’d. Nourish’d is a vegan/vegetarian-friendly café and juice bar, that’s become a quick favourite in both Observatory and Gardens.

The Food:

Their menu consists of juices, coffees, smoothies, bowls and sandwiches intended (and best) for breakfast or lunchtime. Fruits, vegetables, starches, nuts, spices and sauces make up the wholesomely colourful, nutrient dense, absolutely instagrammable meals here.

Earlier this week we had the ‘Moonshine Bowl’ (avocado, falafel, hummus, kimchi, spinach, rocket, raw almonds, toasted seeds, ginger-lemon dressing and spiral carrots and zuchini) with a ‘Pineapple Dreams’ pressed juice (pineapple, cucumber, apple, lemon) for lunch at their Observatory location. The bowl was savoury, fresh and crunchy, the juice sweet and sharp.

The Price:

Based on the portion sizes and variety of ingredients in each dish, the food at Nourish’d is reasonably priced, with the average meal costing about R70. It’s an order-at-counter system and a casual, stripped-down atmosphere. A quote above a fridge stocked with glass bottled pressed juices reads “nourish and flourish!”. There’s indoor and outdoor seating; simple high stools at wooden bars, wooden benches, and tables. Bare light bulbs and long-limbed greenery hang from the ceiling.

The Sustainable Approach:

Alongside the goal of and you guessed it – nourishing their customers. Nourish’d is also committed to being as environmentally conscious as possible. Their sustainable approach shows in their use of paper straws and biodegradable/ compostable takeaway cups, how customers are able to return the glass bottles they bought their pressed juices in for a small deposit or get a discounted hot drink with a BYO travel mug.
