From the bicycle onto the runway
From the bicycle onto the runway, the bike shorts have been doing its fair share of laps in and around the fashion industry. But fear not, unlike the sport it is intended for, donning this trendy shorts will not have you breaking a sweat at all. It might however turn some heads as the skin-tight garment makes a rude show of one’s lady business if not careful. #sorrynotsorry
After seeing Kim K slay these shorts at the launch of the YEEZY Season 6 collection, this trend has been setting the fashion scene ablaze. It did not take long for the rest of the Kardashian/Jenner clan to follow suit and serve us up some hot bike shorts looks. As if we needed any more motivation to try out the trend.
Where to buy them
The key to pulling of this look is to wear shorts that fit perfectly – no bumps, lumps or camel toe. Thanks to the Magic Shapewear range from Woolies, this is absolutely do–able. It’s surprisingly affordable and available online for your convenience. Simply slip it on underneath your bike shorts to create a flawless silhouette. If, however, you prefer going commando and wearing the shorts as is, then we have no objections. Just make sure it’s a really good fit, if not then be sure to wear a longer length top.
Superbalist also has bike shorts online now! They are from Cotton On – so it is sure to be of great quality!
How to style them
This is one fashion trend that does not require much effort in terms of styling, because everything you need is probably already in your cupboard. For date night with bae, simply pair your shorts with an oversized graphic t-shirt, and add pair of sexy block heels to match. Meeting the girls for a lunch date? Great! Match your bike shorts with a chic oversized blazer, a plain t-shirt tucked in, and some funky sneakers. The shorts are evidently quite tight so it makes great fashion sense to pair them with a looser fitting top, but if you are confident enough to show off some more skin, then wear your biker shorts with a crop/bandeau top, and an oversized denim jacket. You are nearly ready to go!
Let’s talk prices
No outfit would be complete without accessories, but be careful not to overdo it -keep it subtle yet pretty. If you are unsure of where to start, try the belt bags from Cotton On (R249.00), or opt for the studded moonbag from Mr Price (R119.00). The stacked chains are also a major season hottie and you can get them for a steal at Mr Price. You are allowed to splurge on accessories since the bike shorts itself is quite affordable. They are readily available from most department stores in the underwear/sports section. However, if it’s quality you’re after then we recommend the Bindi bike shorts from Cotton On (R179.00); it’s available in four different colours.
Why we love them
The bike shorts are here to stay and we are not mad at all. It’s versatile, comfortable, affordable, and with the festive season looming ahead of us we need to save as much money as we can. Since the origins of the shorts is firmly rooted in sports, we might even be inspired to exercise this summer!
