3 words come to mind when we think of Summer: colour, volume and print. With the Summer Pantone colour of the year being ultra violet, it’s no wonder designers lit up the runway in the most deliciously fashionable way possible with their S/S 18 collections. Some designers decided to run with it and incorporated some of the other colours on the Pantone calendar. While others were inspired to go in a different creative direction and opted for a
more mellowed down take on the calendar, hence pastels sticking around for another season. Here are some of the trends we love and think you’d look great in;

Neon

Live your best highlighter life this summer! Seriously, neon has made a comeback in a big way this year. Neon green especially, has been a staple for both summer and winter wardrobes all over the world. It’s an easy way to dress up an outfit and an easy statement piece to centre or build an outfit around. You can go as big as you want or as small as you want with this trend, it all depends on your personal taste and style. Neon nails, neon bandeau tops or military style neon pants are great super wearable takes on this trend. And no one will ever miss you in a crowd, ever!

Puffy sleeve

A great way to add dimension and visual interest to a piece is to make it voluminous. Many designers played around with layers and fabrics to create such beautiful and appealing pieces that we saw make their way down the runway. An everyday take on this would be puffy, bell shaped sleeves. Light fabrics, such as cotton and linen, allow for additional ventilation which is always a plus in African summers. This is such an effortless way to look stylish, trendy and chic while still keeping cool.

Snake print

Prints in general have become the new solids but it’s been by far the season for snake print. With it being on every fashion blogger’s favourites list for the season and Riri rocking head to toe snake print at her most recent Fenty Beauty launch; snake print is definitely here to stay for the summer. It is a bit intimidating, most prints are, but worn right it’s a head turner and it makes you look like you tried when you literally just draped something on.
A light, flowy summer dress or a simple blouse in this print are an easy buy into the trend for those who just want to dip their toes into it.

The Ugly Frock

We know, we know but hear us out! The 80s are in and with them; your
grandmother’s old ugly frocks. This is a good thing though as you can hit up your local thrift shops or even go through your family kist to find this piece. This is one trend you don’t have to break the bank for and styled correctly – it’s one that will definitely have you standing out. Pair it up with a comfortable white trainer, a heel or a combat boot; whatever your heart desires. It, surprisingly, goes well with any and everything.

OTT earrings

Don’t feel like doing too much but feel like looking like you did? Well here’s the answer to you fashion prayers. Over the top earrings are statement pieces that will speak louder than you and announce your presence long before you do. There’s honestly nothing more to say about them, definitely a fave.
