2019 is gonna be a big year for movies. Expect sequels, prequels, live action remakes and new movies to satisfy our cravings. We will be counting down the 25 movies y’all need to watch out for.

25. Dark Phoenix

This Superhero movie is based on the DC Comics universe. In this movie one of the X-Mens own, Jean Grey, is hit by a cosmic force while in outer space and becomes more powerful and even more unstable. The X-Men have to find a way to contain Jean Greys power to protect themselves and her. This movie stars Sophie Turner, the Game of Thrones star, Jessica Chastain, Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender. Dark Phoenix will be released in June 2019.

24. Captain Marvel

This Marvel Comics superhero will be played by Brie Larson (YAAAAAAS). The quick-tempered Captain Marvel, who is half human-half superhuman, has to save Earth once it becomes the buffer between an alien war. Captain Marvel will be released in March 2019.

23. The Kitchen

The Kitchen is a crime-comedy starring comedy greats, MELLISA McCARTHY and TIFFANY HADDISH. This is us watching this movie:

The Kitchen is about the wives of Irish mobsters who take over their husband’s organised crime businesses once their husbands have been arrested. The Kitchen will be released in September 2019.

22. Pokémon: Detective Pikachu

Pokémon: Detective Pikachu is a live action movie based on the character Pikachu from the Pokémon series. Unlike in the Pokémon series, Pikachu can speak and is voiced by Ryan Reynolds. The plot is based on Detective Pikachu and Tim Goodman, an ex-Pokémon trainer, who team up to find Pikachu’s partner and Tim Goodman’s father, Harry Goodman, who has gone missing. Pokémon: Detective Pikachu will be released in May 2019.

21. Dumbo

This live action remake, directed by Tim Burton, of the 1941 cartoon classic is about a young elephant who is able to fly with his huge ears. He saves a struggling circus while discovering sinister secrets about the circus with his friends. This movie stars Colin Farrell, Eva Green and Michael Keaton. Dumbo will be released in March 2019.

20. Zombieland 2

If you’re a true movie snob you’ll know that Zombieland is one of the best zombie movies ever made. The post-apocalyptic comedy horror sequel stars Emma Stone, Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg and Abigail Breslin. This sequel is a must see and it will have you eating your heart, and brain, out. Zombieland 2 will be released in October 2019.

19. The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part

The first Lego movie was a hit with children and adults with its purity, comedic timing and hilarious puns. The sequel shows us how the citizens of Bricksburg have to stop the Lego Duplo characters from destroying everything in their path. The sequel feautures the voices of Christ Pratt, Margo Robbie, Channing Tatum, Elizabeth Banks and Tiffany Haddish. The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part will be released in February 2019.

18. Charlie’s Angels

This action-comedy reboot was directed, produced and written by the brilliant Elizabeth Banks. Stars of the Charlie’s Angels reboot are Elizabeth Banks, Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott and Patrick Stewart. Anything to do with Elizabeth Banks is always a must-see so we’re holding our breathe in anticipation! Charlie’s Angels will be released in November 2019.

The New Mutants is apart of the X-Men series. In the movie, young mutants are held in a facility and have to fight to save their lives. This movie stars Maisie Williams, the Game of Thrones star, Charlie Heaton, the Stranger Things star, and Antonio Banderas. The New Mutants will be released in August 2019.

16. Jumanji 3

The Welcome To The Jungle sequel has yet to start shooting but will be released in December 2019. So far, we know that the movie will once again star Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan and Jack Black.

15. Hobbs and Shaw

THIS IF FOR ALL THE FAST AND FURIOUS FANS! Agent Hobbs and Deckard Shaw will be getting their own movie! Hobbs and Shaw is a spin-off of the iconic Fast and Furious series. The unlikely pair, Hobbs, Dwayne Johnson, and Shaw, Jason Statham, work together to stop a terrorist leader, Idris Elba. Hobbs and Shaw will be released in August 2019.

14. Spider-Man: Far From Home

In the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming, Peter Parker is vacationing in Europe with his friends. He discovers and works together with his friends to destroy a villain by the name of Mysterio. This movie stars Tom Holland, Zendaga and Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio. Spider-Man: Far From Home will be released in July 2019.

13. Suicide Squad 2

Suicide Squad 1 made huge waves in 2016 so we have high hopes for Suicide Squad 2. We don’t know much about the movie, all we know is that Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Jared Leto will be returning. There is also rumours that Dwayne Johnson will make a debut in the movie as a possible villain.

12. Untitled Annabelle Threequel

In this movie, demonologists lock the possessed doll in an artifacts room in their home. They place her behind sacred glass and have a priest pray a holy blessing. This obviously does nothing to the doll and she awakens evil spirits to go after the demonologists’ 10 year old daughter. You guys know the drill. This movie stars Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga. Annabelle 3 will be released in July 2019.

11. Men In Black: International

Sorry guys, this MIB doesn’t star Will Smith. BUT we have a really good replacement.

Agent H, played by Chris Hemsworth, and Agent M, played by Tessa Thompson, fight evil alien forces all over the planet. You may remember this duo from Thor: Ragnarok. Liam Neeson also stars in this film. Men In Black: International will be released in June 2019.

10. Us

This movie, starring Lupita Nyong’o is a horror movie based around a family on vacation . This family is faced with a group of doppelgangers who look and think like them. The doppelgangers only have one goal, to kill them. Nyong’o’s character and her family only have two options: kill them or be killed. Us will be released in March 2019.

9. Frozen 2

If any of you guys say that you don’t like Frozen, you’re lying. And you know it. Frozen 2 will star Kristen Bell, Evan Rachel Wood, Sterling K. Brown and Josh Gad. There have been rumours about possible love interests for certain characters. Olaf might get a girlfriend. Queen Elsa might get a girlfriend. Yes, you read that correctly, we’re keeping up with the times here people. Frozen 2 will be released in November 2019.

8. Joker

In this movie a failed comedian is driven insane. He becomes a psychopathic criminal mastermind known as the Joker. This movie stars Joaquin Phoenix, as the Joker, and Robert De Niro. Joker will be released in October 2019.

7. It: Chapter Two

This sequel will have you clenching your fists, biting your lips and tensing your whole body in fear and unlikely joy. The terrorising Pennywise returns 27 years later to haunt the members of the Losers’ Club, who are now adults. This movie stars Jessica Chastain, Bill Hader, James McAvoy and Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise. It: Chapter Two will be released in September 2019.

6. Aladdin

This live action remake of the 1992 cartoon classic will feature Mena Massoud as Alladin, Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine and Will Smith as The Genie. The Genie will be CGI for most of the movie but will be disguised in human form in parts, played by Will Smith. Aladdin will be released May 2019.

5. The Addams Family

This cartoon remake of the 1991 classic about the ghoulish family will leave you screaming with delight! The voices starred in this movie will leave you shaking! You’ll be hearing Charlize Theron, Chloë Grace Moretz, Bette Midler and Alison Janney.

The Addams Family will be released in October 2019.

4. Star Wars: Episode IX

This will be the conclusion of the Star Wars Trilogy. All we know about this movie is that it’s set one year after The Last Jedi. This movie stars Mark Hamill, the late Carrie Fisher, Daisy Ridley and Lupita Nyong’o. Star Wars: Episode IX will be released in December 2019.

3. Toy Story 4

This fourquel (that’s not really a word but ‘fourth installment’ sounds boring) to the iconic 1995 cartoon shows us how Woody and Buzz live with their new owner, Bonnie, and have to adapt to her new toys in their surroundings. Stars of this movie are Tom Hanks, Woody Allen and Joan Cusack. Toy Story 4 will be released in June 2019.

2. Avengers: Endgame

Tony Stark is lost in space with little oxygen while the remaining Avengers are trying to bring back their vanished allies after Thanos extinguished half the universe. This movie stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo and Brie Larson, to name a few. Avengers: Endgame will be released in April 2019.

1. The Lion King

This is hands down the most anticipated movie of 2019. This live action remake of the 1994 cartoon classic will feature the voices of Donald Glover as adult Simba, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Chiwetel Eliofor as Scar and Queen Bey as Nala. Book your movie tickets as soon as soon as possible because all millennials will be queueing to see their favourite childhood movie (including me). The Lion King 2 will be released in July 2019.
