1. Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts

The Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts are notorious for there stellar line-up and good vibes. As usual, they have not disappointed. On the 20th of January, Freshlyground will be taking over the stage. On the 27th of January, the Afro-pop duo, Mafikizolo, will be performing. You can purchase tickets from Web Tickets.

A romantic, relaxing evening watching a movie under a blanket of stars sounds idyllic! The Galileo Open Air Cinema is operating until the end of April so you have no excuse to miss out. Here is January’s lineup:

  • 18 Jan: The Blind Side will be aired at the V&A Waterfront: Battery Park

  • 19 Jan: Chicago will be aired the Vredenheim Wine Estate

  • 23 Jan: A Walk In The Clouds will be aired at Kirstenbosch

  • 24 Jan: 50 First Dates will be aired at Kirstenbosch

Galileo Open Air Cinema– 25 Jan: Braveheart will be aired at Meerendal Wine Estate

  • 26 Jan: Lion will be aired at Under Oaks Wine Estate

  • 30 Jan: Ready Player One will be aired at Kirstenbosch

3. Oude Libertas Summer Season Festival

The Oude Libertas Amphitheatre, in the Cape Winelands, annually hosts a summer festival showcasing musical and theatrical performances. They have three more shows for January but the festival ends in March.

  • 27 Jan: 8 Seasons – Vivaldi and Piazolla

4. Sarafina! The Musical

Sarafina! The Musical is based off the movie, Sarafina, and is a tribute to the lives of the youth who fought for equality during the Soweto Youth Uprising in 1976.

SarafinaThere will be 9 shows between the 29th of January and the 2nd of February with 5 shows in January. Sarafina! The Musical will be performed at The Artscape. Tickets range between R60-R100 and you can purchase tickets from Computicket.

5. Red Bull King of the Air 2019

Red Bull King of the Air is an annual kite-surfing competition in Cape Town. Pro kite-surfers from all of the world come to Cape Town to fight for the title. The competition will be held at Blouberg Beach between the 26th of January and 10th of February. Admission is free.

On the 27th of January, Bree Street will turn into an open and free space for the public. Between 9AM and 2PM the street will be closed down to cars and people will be able to socialise, perform and showcase in the street. Some registered performers are College of Magic, Marimba Jam, Cape Town Aikido and Balisa Nathi Storytelling Collective. You’re all welcome!

Because the evenings are longer in summer, Table Mountain Cableway return tickets will be half price after 6PM until the 28th of February. You’ll be able to experience Cape Towns gorgeous sunsets from the top of our majestic mountain for a discounted price! Only passengers with valid South African ID’s do qualify. Tickets are available at the Ticket Office!

On the 31st of January, the Two Oceans Aquarium will be hosting a Kelp Night to celebrate and teach about South Africa’s kelp forests. 4 world renowned speakers will be at the event to share and educate on their work of the underwater forests. Tickets are R190 and are available on Quicket.

If you’re into rare and classic cars and bikes, this exhibition is for you! Hosted by the International Police Association, the 19th Annual Classic Car and Bike Show will be hosted at the Timour Hall Villa from the 19th to the 20th of January. Come enjoy the beautiful vehicles while enjoying food from the food stalls and beer garden. Tickets cost R40 and you can purchase them from Computicket.

10. The Sun Met

The Sun Met, one of the most glamorous events of the year, will take place on the 26th of January at the Kenilworth Racecourse. This year’s theme is African Luxury: Precious Metals.
