UP THE CREEK
The craziness of December is over and we are still trying to deal with one of the longest months in the year #januworry. But don’t despair: it will all be over soon and just in time for the first music festival of the year. So grab your lilos, your favourite festival gear and do not forget your trendiest swimsuits, because Up The Creek is just a few weeks away.
What the creek is Up The Creek?
What is Up The Creek, you ask? Well only one of the longest running and most unique music festivals in Cape Town! Think nature, water (not to drink, though), music and fun. This festival has been running since 1990 which means it’s older than most of us, so with all those years under the belt, you can only expect a top-notch music experience set on the backdrop of the Breede River.
Gimme the deets
Up the Creek is a 4 day music festival starting at 11am on Thursday the 7th of February until Sunday the 10th . Unlike most music festivals, Up The Creek gets its uniqueness by not being too big. Approximately 3000 people attend each year which means you and your crew are less likely to lose each other – which is always a plus – and its small enough to create an intimate party festival vibe.
What to expect
So how about a mini road trip with your besties as the venue is about 2.5 hours away from Cape Town, just outside Swellendam. Take your crew, your best vibes and enjoy some live music and amazing dj’s as there will be over 50 bands, musicians and dj’s, oh and a little bit of stand-up comedy, all of this across three stages. Local is lekker at Up The Creek with some amazing South African acts such as Grassy Spark, The Robfather and many more.
… and the facilities?
With excellent facilities such as clean hot showers and flushing toilets as well as glamping options – for those of us that can do without the hassle of pitching a tent. Your safety takes first priority as there is ample security, as well as life guards along the river bed of the venue, and yes you can bring your skottle if you want to prepare your own food, but there will be a variety of food vendors and bars on site.
Get ready to mingle!
There are no VIP’s at this festival, which means musicians come out to play with festival goers so you can have your own personal meet and greet with your favourite musicians and DJ’s. There is so much on offer from sunrise yoga sessions to live comedy, amazing competitions and lots more.
Imagine lying on a river on your favourite floatie with your best crew, a cold beverage in your hand while you watch your favourite local act live on stage. So grab your inflatables come as you are, bring your awesome vibe and experience long lasting memories. What more could you ask for from a music festival.
