Trouble seems to follow Chris Brown like a social media stalker that just won’t go away. In the latest news, the award-winning singer was arrested in Paris on Monday the 21st of January in connection with a rape allegation that is said to have taken place on the 15th of January in Paris.
A 24-year-old woman that met the singer and his entourage at a nightclub near the Champs Elysees on the night of the alleged rape is accusing Chris Brown, his bodyguard and a friend of raping her at the superstar’s hotel suite at the Mandarin Oriental hotel in Paris.
Chris Brown, who has a history with violent conduct which includes his 2009 conviction for physically abusing fellow singer and then-girlfriend Rihanna, was detained for questioning in Paris on Monday on charges of aggravated rape and drug-related charges.
The Singer, who has sold over 100 million records, has had a couple of brushes with the law over the years. In 2009 he was sentenced to 5 years’ probation and 6 months community service for assaulting Rihanna.
In 2014 he pleaded guilty to assaulting a fan in Washington. In 20117, his then-girlfriend (Karreuche Tran) also filled for a restraining order against the singer as he was making her feel unsafe. He reportedly also menaced her following their split and demanded she return diamond rings and other items he gifted her during the course of their relationship.
In 2016 he was arrested and charged with assault following a standoff with Los Angeles police after a woman said he threatened her at his home and last May a woman filed a lawsuit against him for holding her against her will and claims that one of his friends raped her at a party that was held at his Los Angeles home in 2017.
The star and his co-accused were released without charge on Tuesday the 22nd of January. Police say the investigation into the matter is still on-going, while Brown’s lawyer said the claims leveled against his client were unfounded and slandering, further stating that his client would be opening a case of defamation against his accuser.
After his release, Chris Brown took to his Instagram account to post an image. He captioned “this b*tch lyin” with the caption saying “I WANNA MAKE IT PERFECTLY CLEAR…… ‘THIS IS FALSE AND A WHOLE LOT OF CRAP! NNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEERRRRRR!!!!!! FOR MY DAUGHTER AND MY FAMILY THIS IS SO DISPRESPECTFUL AND IS AGAINST MY CHARACTER AND MORALS!!!!! [sic].” In a post that has since been deleted from his Instagram page.
The court of public opinion took center stage as the story unfolded. People are torn as to which version of events to believe. Other people are attacking celebrities that showed support to Chris Brown on social media. With Bill Cosby’s rape conviction, we’ve seen more women coming forward and talking about sexual violations by celebrities. R Kelly and now Chris Brown are the latest big names to be accused of sexual assault.
