The fashion world has just wrapped up Paris couture week for Spring 2019 and we have so much to catch up on! Read below for some of our favourite moments from this year’s shows:
COUTURE GONE VIRAL
Viktor and Rolf made meme couture with these instantly viral dresses. Like the grown-up version of a slogan tee, these gowns say everything you’re feeling for you. We think it would be kind of incredible if someone turned up to the Oscar’s in one of these … Gaga, we’re looking at you.
Bridal couture went to the beach at this year’s Chanel show. Crystal encrusted one piece anyone?
A backpack but make it FASHUN DAHLING. We’d really like to see at least one fresher recreate this Givenchy look for lectures this year. UCT art kids, we’re looking at you!
FLOWERS FOR SPRING
Flowers for spring may not be ground-breaking, but these Iris van Herpen dresses were art come to life and we loved every bit of it. There are some things that only couture can do.
MOTHER MAY I
You can’t tell, but underneath this sunset-hued Schiaparelli gown is a very pregnant woman. If this is couture’s version of maternity style, we are here for it. It looks like four tutu skirts stacked on top of each other which is kind of amazing.
Tessa Thompson is killing it at the moment and this look is no exception. She’s wore this head to toe Chanel look for their couture show and we think she’s just made the brand look fresher and more modern than we’ve seen in a long time.
Naomi Campbell closed the Valentino show looking like an absolute goddess. It should be noted that we saw more women of colour on this runway than we’ve ever seen at a couture show.
We hope other houses will take note and follow in Valentino’s footsteps because honestly, it’s ridiculous that it’s taken this long for a show like this to happen.
Props to Karlie Kloss for going the extra mile to get that perfect fashion week Instagram pic!
It may look sunny but temperatures in Paris were close to freezing when she took this pic. She wore this gauzy, beautiful (not at all winter appropriate) Dior dress to their couture show and somehow, doesn’t look cold at all. Anything for that #ootd Insta right?
Both Giambattista Valli and Givenchy gave us fresh, dewy beauty looks on the runway this year with sparkly accessories to bring the glamour. Maybe next time you’re getting ready for a night out, ditch the make-up and get out the diamonds and pearls instead.
Is it a cape? Is it a dress? We don’t know but we love this Giambattista Valli look and we think Tracee Ellis Ross should wear it.
