Sticking to rules is a thing of the past. Forget colour clashes and fitting in with the rest. Fashion is one of the best ways to express yourself and your originality. Why not use it to your advantage? Most fashion don’ts are turning into trends and are simply being transformed into something we would never have thought of. Once you forget about what others think and just simply be you, you might end up creating a trend of your own. We decided to have a look at some of the crazy trends that actually ended up working pretty well.

Number 1: Socks and sandals.

Yes wearing socks with sandals might be pretty mod for your grandfather but don’t feel ashamed to give it a try, it is not about trying to connect with past times but now it’s more an attitude to life.

Needless to say it has become one of the most controversial fashion trends in today’s fashion world and are now popular among runway shows. Top brand names like Gucci and Marc Jacobs and are a common added item for most celebrities. Our first thought about wearing this old time combo were also those dreaded Crocs but it can actually be worn with many shoe types including heels, not to mention all the trendy sock patterns that are also in at the moment. It is a lot easier to make this “so wrong fashion trend,” so right.

Number 2: Brighter is better.

Now is not the time to fear a little colour. Yes, we know neutral colours are a safe option but adding a bright splash of colour to your look is what it’s all about.

Whether it’s a bright coloured accessory or a full on rainbow outfit: don’t be afraid to let your creativity go a bit wild and even though you may have doubts about looking like a traffic cone in orange or a car guard in yellow. You will never know if you never try. So start small! A small splash of colour to any outfit will help tell if it works for you or not.

Number 3: Mixed prints

Is there even any other fashion rule besides ‘don’t mix your prints’ that’s been around for far too long? And yes; although we still might hesitate when choosing a graphic T with stripped pants, this is not a rule we should fear.

Mixed prints

It all comes down to being playful and taking a (calculated) fashion risk! A good way to start is by having a common factor in your prints. This could be a colour or a similar print type that balances the look. So no, it doesn’t take some extreme fashion guru to master the art of mixed prints. It’s just doing what feels right and we can guarantee it is a lot easier than it sounds.

Number 4: Denim on denim

Denim on denim is one of the most popular street styles out there, it has become extremely popular with celebrities, including Kendall Jenner and Olivia Palermo. This double denim look could possibly become one of your most popular outfits too. Fashion don’ts are all about balance, once you have mastered that – you could pretty much pull off anything.

Always Brainstorming

Break up the denim with a light coloured shirt, subtle patterns or even light wash denim alternatives. This helps create a harmony throughout your look without being too over the top or like you just time travelled from the 90’s.

Number 5: Transparencies

This is probably one of the most risky fashion trends out there! Having everything on show can be a little intimidating, to say the least. Your underwear was once a thing to be disguised but this trend is about embracing all (and we mean all) of you.

Although mesh / transparent clothing items are not everyone’s cup of tea, there are easier and far less exposing ways to make this trend work for you. Experiment with layers, showing just a little bit of skin around the chest or stomach area with a sheer top can add some edge to a look without giving away too much.

Needless to say: these fashion trends require a little push out your comfort zone and are going against all the do’s and don’ts out there but change is good! So, why not be a little more daring in the mornings when getting dressed?

Stay TrendE.
