1. Star:

An American drama series. (Currently on its third season)
Star is the name of the main character. She the dream of becoming a star. Her life in the foster system didn’t dull her dreams, instead it gave her the strength to pursue them. The committed young lady follows the path to fame in the cut-throat music industry, the singer tracks down her sister Simone and her friend from Instagram, Alexandra and the trio makes their way to Atlanta. Once in the A they find support in the form of a mother-figure (Star and Simone’s godmother). Down the line they meet the down-and-out talent agent Jahil who takes an interest in Star. As the trio chase down their dream they realise that ambition has a price and sometimes that price is too high. The Fox series will leave you wanting more after every episode.

2. Insecure:

An American comedy series. (Currently on its third season)
The HBO hit wrote by Issa Rae is really blew up this year. This series is about modern-day black women going through the most while trying to deal with their own flaws and their insecurities. Together Issa and Molly, two best friends, cope with an endless series of uncomfortable everyday experiences. The series looks at the friendship of two black women in a unique and authentic way. It features the music of both Indie and established artists of colour, and touches on a variety of racial issues that relate to the contemporary black experience. This series will have you cry laughing. The moments when the characters aren’t happy really make you feel for them. It feels as if you are not watching a show, you really feel a part of their friendship.

3. How To Get Away with Murder:

An American drama series. (Currently on its fifth season)
The ABC series is about Annalise Keating, a brilliant, charismatic and seductive professor of defence law, teaching a class called how to get away with murder. She is also a criminal defence attorney who selects a group of students, the best and the brightest, to assist with cases at her firm. Mysteries arise that tests everyone’s limits and reveal dark truths. The series starts with the group of students disposing of a body and then it jumps into the story slowly revealing what led up to the event. This drama will have you second guessing every character. If you’re looking for a series that has a lot of mystery this is definitely the one. If this had to be a book you would not put it down. 96% of google users liked this series. It also has a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes. So if you enjoy quality start watching now.

4. Titans:

American web television series. (Currently on its first season)
With a score of 83% on Rotten Tomatoes the gritty take on the Teen Titans franchise follows young heroes from across the DC Universe as they come of age and find where they belong. Dick Grayson and Rachel Roth, a special girl possessed by a weird darkness, get involved in a conspiracy that could bring Hell on Earth. Hot-headed Starfire and lovable Beast Boy join them along the way and together they become a family of sorts and team of heroes fighting evil. Every episode is filled with amazing action and adventure. They don’t have a plan they just react to whatever comes their way and that makes the show so unpredictable and exciting. 95% of Google users like this TV show and we think you would too.

5. Brooklyn Nine Nine:

American sitcom. (Currently on its sixth season)
This hilarious American sitcom will have you rolling on the floor laughing and 98% of Google users would agree. A talented and carefree cop with the best arrest record, Detective Jake Peralta, has never had to follow the rules too closely or work very hard. That changes when the station gets a new commanding officer. Ray Holt is a man with a lot to prove so he brings down the hammer real hard on all of his colleagues. The show has a racially balanced cast, something everyone will appreciate. The writing allows for very unique characters. Everyone can find something/someone to like in this show. By making light of dark situations and crime it brings issues that we deal with in the world to the forefront. All round this show is a true gem and with a score of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes how could anyone disagree.
