In recent years the TrendE-iest drink of choice has been a good ol’ gin and tonic. But gone are the days of simply picking your poison, now we must consider which selection of infusions we feel like sampling. Not only has our selection of gin exponentially increased, but the range of tonics has also increased to compliment this blossoming industry. From gin and tonic festivals to our very own Gin Bar, it’s difficult not to indulge in this refreshing summer cocktail!

Cape Town itself is home to many distilleries producing delicious gins (as well as tonics and other amazing spirits)!

Woodstock Gin Company

This distillery was founded in 2014 by Simon Von Witt, whose passion for creating Fynbos infused gin resulted in the creation of some kickass gins. The distillery creates some stellar gins, as well as their very own tonic. The flagship gin of the company is Inception, which is available with both a wine and beer base, so you can pick your fav.

An interesting addition to their product range is the “Spice your Gin,” which is essentially a tea bag of delicious spices designed to enhance the flavor of your cocktail. These are a great addition to any summer fiesta!

Calling itself an experimental micro distillery, New Harbour Distillery creates small batch spirits influenced by nature. By sourcing amazing African botanicals from across the continent, the spirits created are unique and yummy.

New Harbour offers gin classes in which you can learn how your favourite spirit is made and even craft your very own! Check out their website for more details.

Hope on Hopkins

Hope on Hopkins partners Lucy Beard and Leigh Lisk create handcrafted gins, as well as vodka and their very own tequila (but not tequila because it’s not made in Mexico, but rather our very own Salt River).

This distillery is home to Mildred and Maude, the first stills to be licensed in Cape Town! Not only is their distillery home to several stills, but a few special characters too. Namely Mimo (the distillery cat), Martini (distillery-cat-in-training) and Mr. Scruff (one of the sweetest pups you ever did see)!

They have also created some amazing cocktail recipes which are available on their website. Tastings are offered, check out their website for more details.
