Roast & Co

Relax with an after-work drink in the courtyard of this upmarket chicken eatery right in the middle of the CBD. Roast & Co’s Happy Hour runs from 4pm to 6pm every day. During this time, the restaurant has a two-for-one special on all cocktails, wine by the glass and selected beers. To make this Happy Hour even sweeter, their “to-share” plates are also half-price between 4pm and 6pm every day.

  1. Primal Eatery

This steakhouse in Gardens is not only for the meat lovers, but also for anyone else who loves a good cocktail. This “meatery” makes some amazing, creative cocktails including their own unique ones like the ‘Tribal Mule’ and the ‘Foraged Bramble’. Tuesdays through to Fridays, from 6pm to 8pm, Primal Eatery has a happy hour where all their cocktails, both bespoke and classic, are half the price! What’s more, from 6pm to 7pm every day, Primal Eatery also has a ‘Summer Sizzle’ special which includes two 200g sirloin steaks with either chips or salad, and a bottle of Bellingham Shiraz for only R350.

This unique restaurant is set in an old Victorian house in the heart of Observatory, which makes it a favourite among all the students in the area. Every space inside the house offers a different vibe but our favourite is their beer garden outside, which is perfect for their daily Happy Hour. From 5pm until 6pm every day, a glass of wine is only R20 or R60 for a bottle, pints of craft beer are half-price, and there is a two-for-one special on tequila. And to kick off the weekend, A Touch of Madness also has a Friday special where all cocktail jugs are half-price until 7pm.

Situated in the centre of the popular and bustling Bree Street, this contemporary restaurant is the ideal spot for your post-work drinks. At Burger & Lobster, attention to detail is key and it’s clear in their wide variety of signature cocktails. During their daily ‘Social Hour’ (aka Happy Hour) between 4pm and 7pm, they have a two-for-one special on selected signature cocktails, craft beers and wine by the glass. Burger & Lobster also recently introduced their new Bar Bites menu for their Social Hour. Everything on this new menu is R38 an item and include bites like ‘Prawn Popcorn’ and ‘Mini Burger Bombs’. From Wednesdays to Saturdays, between 5pm and 7pm, Harringtons has a Happy Hour when all classic cocktails, local bubbly and standard beers are half the price. They also have a tapas special on the same days from 5pm to 8pm where any four tapas will cost you only R200.

This American-style diner, known for its burgers as the name implies, have been a favourite for catch ups after work or a day on campus. Their happy hours are almost as famous as their burgers, and when you’ve tasted one of their cocktails, you’ll understand why! During the happy hour at Hudsons, The Burger Joint, which runs from Monday to Friday, between 4:30pm and 6:30pm, all cocktails, craft G&T’s, beers on tap and house wines, as well as appetizers are half the price. They also have a slider special on Thursdays when their sliders are only R25.

What makes us love The Piano Bar even more is that they have different specials that run throughout the week. Their normal Happy Hour is between 4pm and 6pm every day and includes a special on selected tapas and a two-for-one special on selected cocktails, wines, beers and tequila. On Thursdays, all their classic cocktails are half price between 7:30pm and 10:30pm and from 12pm on Sundays, they have a champagne special at R40 per glass.

Located in Greenpoint, this restaurant has a huge menu that caters for everyone. With plenty outdoor seating on the balcony and patio, Café Extrablatt is ideal for summer evenings and their different specials during the week make it perfect for your student budget. They have a happy hour between 5pm and 8pm from Monday to Friday where cocktails are only R40, Jumbos are R45 and Mocktails are R32. Café Extrablatt also has some food specials during the week. On Mondays from 5pm, they have a pizza special where you can get two pizzas for only R129 and on Wednesdays from 5pm, if you buy one burger, you get one free.
