Being a not-so-hidden gem along the Southern Peninsula, Simon’s Town has everything to offer. Thinking of taking a break from busy city life? Want any excuse to spend time holding onto that holiday feeling? Well, here it is. With many accommodation options this historic town is the perfect spot for a weekend retreat. Or simply spend a day filled with history, food and nature.

On the foodie scene, this small town boasts many restaurants and cafes. A few that make our top hits are The Sweetest Thing, Saveur, and the ice cream store!

The Sweetest Thing

the sweetest thing

This amazing patisserie on the main road (really, the only road in the town) is home to a variety of amazing delicate desserts, quiches, pies, fresh bread, etc. It’s all you could want for a coffee stop or a lunch and dessert spot. On a sunny day, we recommend asking to sit in the back courtyard!

Saveur

This is our go to spot if undecided on the type of food we feel like. From pasta, to steak, burgers, fish and chips, drinks and dessert, Saveur has it all. They often run specials during the week, like 2 for 1 burgers on Wednesdays! The servers are always welcoming and friendly. We suggest calling ahead to book a table with an ocean view! It’s a great place to watch the bay from while enjoying a yummy meal and a few drinks.

The ice cream store

Need we say more? It’s ice cream! Although the prices are slightly high for the scoops, they are delicious. Although we recommend the classic Choc ’99! It’s a great companion for window shopping (or real shopping) the many stores along main street.

Feel like a little culture? Visit one of the museums in the area. Or maybe a real-life submarine? Enjoy this town’s rich naval history or wonder through the Toy Museum. Into crystals? Feel like a game of indoor putt-putt? Visit the Scratch Patch. There is something for everyone!

Maybe nature is more in your realm of interest. Located close to Cape Point Nature Reserve Simon’s Town is a great base to explore to the surrounding areas, including Scarborough and Noordehoek! A must see is obviously Boulders Beach!

Honorary Mentions

Although there are many things to do and see in this wonderful small town, some things are a must!

The best fish and chips in town, you ask? The Salty Sea Dog! This small business is renowned for its classic fish and chips. It may not be the lap of luxury but this spot is a must visit for locals and visitors alike!

Coffee to go? Or to stay even? Think coffee offers a solid caffeine dose to prepare the day. They also have a very aesthetic interior for all your Insta needs and a bunch of games in case your date is not going the best. Not into coffee? We always go for the iced Chai latte, a winner on hot days!
